On Small Human Exchanges.
Today I had one of those small, unexpected moments that linger.
I went into a thrift store for something ordinary and ended up in a brief, kind conversation with a stranger. We talked about rocks, the land around here, and without ceremony, he shared a few quartz crystals he’d found locally.
There was nothing dramatic about it.
No symbolism we had to agree on.
No story we needed to make it mean more than it was.
We exchanged stones and went our separate ways.
What stayed with me wasn’t the crystals—it was the tone of the interaction.
Simple. Respectful. Unburdened.
I’m noticing how much these kinds of exchanges matter to me right now.
They remind me that connection doesn’t have to be intense, heavy, or emotionally loaded to be real.
Sometimes it’s just presence.
Sometimes it’s mutual respect.
Sometimes it’s a moment that asks nothing more than to be noticed.
And that, too, is part of becoming.
